Shopify app development for the features your store can’t buy off the shelf.

Shopify app development for merchants who keep hitting the limits of public apps. We build custom apps around your exact workflow, connect them to the systems you already use, and hand over code you own.

  • Built on Shopify’s current APIs
  • No per-store monthly app fees
  • Code and data you own

Custom Shopify apps

When an App Store app is close, but not quite right.

The Shopify App Store solves a lot of problems. But public apps are built for thousands of stores, so they rarely match one store’s process exactly. Merchants end up stacking three apps to do one job, paying several monthly fees, and living with features that almost work. Custom Shopify app development replaces that stack with one tool built for how your business actually runs.

A custom app can live inside your Shopify admin, run quietly in the background, or add blocks to your theme and checkout. Common examples are order routing rules, custom reports, inventory sync with a warehouse, product personalization, loyalty logic, gated wholesale pricing and tools that save your team hours of copy-and-paste each week.

As a Shopify app development company, we build on Shopify’s supported tools: the GraphQL Admin API, webhooks, Shopify Functions, theme app extensions and checkout UI extensions. That keeps your app stable through platform updates and avoids hacks that break when Shopify changes. Before we write code, we check whether an existing app or a theme change would do the job for less, and we tell you if it would.

Types of apps we build

Shopify app development services, from small tools to full platforms.

Most projects fall into one or more of these groups. We scope each one around the job it needs to do, not a feature list.

Private apps for one store

Custom apps installed only on your store, with the permissions they need and nothing more.

Embedded admin tools

Screens inside your Shopify admin for tasks your team does every day, built to match Shopify’s look and feel.

Integrations and data sync

Two-way sync with ERPs, 3PLs, CRMs, POS and marketing tools, with logs so you can see what moved and when.

Theme app extensions

App blocks your team can add to product, cart or other pages in the theme editor without editing code.

Checkout and Functions apps

Custom discounts, shipping and payment rules, and checkout UI extensions where your plan allows them.

Workflow automation

Background jobs triggered by orders, inventory or customer events, from tagging to custom notifications.

Public App Store apps

For software companies: apps built for many merchants, with billing, onboarding and Shopify’s app review in mind.

App audits and rebuilds

A review of an existing custom app that is slow, outdated or using older APIs, then a plan to fix or replace it.

Process

How a custom Shopify app gets built

Apps touch orders and customer data, so we plan carefully and test on a development store long before your live store sees anything.

  1. 1

    Workflow mapping

We sit with the people who will use the app and map the current process, the data involved and the exceptions.

  2. 2

    Spec and architecture

A written spec covering screens, data, API permissions, hosting and error handling, with a fixed price attached.

  3. 3

    Build in stages

The app is built in small working pieces on a development store, so you can try each part and give feedback early.

  4. 4

    Testing with real cases

We test with your real order types, edge cases and volume, and check what happens when another system is down.

  5. 5

    Install, monitor and document

Installation on your store, monitoring after launch, and documentation of how the app works and where it is hosted.

FAQ

Shopify app development FAQ

Have a question that isn’t here? Ask us directly.

What is the difference between a custom app and a public app?

A public app is listed on the Shopify App Store and built for many stores. A custom app is built for one store, or one company’s stores, and is not listed publicly. Custom apps fit your process exactly and do not carry per-store marketplace fees.

How much does it cost to build a Shopify app?

A small app with one job costs much less than an integration with an ERP or a public app with billing and onboarding. We write a spec after a scoping call and give you a fixed price for it.

Who owns the app and the code?

You do. We hand over the source code and repository access at the end of the project. You can keep us on for hosting and support or move the app to your own servers.

Where is a custom Shopify app hosted?

Most apps need a small server or cloud function to run. We recommend hosting that fits the app’s size and can set it up in your own account, so you stay in control of it.

Will my app break when Shopify updates its API?

Shopify releases new API versions on a regular schedule and retires old ones. We build on current versions, note which version the app uses, and our support plans include updating apps before older versions are retired.

Can you take over an app another developer built?

Yes. We start with a code and security review, list what needs attention, and then either maintain, improve or rebuild the app depending on what we find.
